If I see pod content I really like, we use ShareLink® to project it on the main display so all students can see what great work looks like. Students are really excited about the AV technology in the collab labs. They love being able to see and share their work on the large screens, and it integrates our technology standards.

In the Visualization Studio, an XTP® II CrossPoint 1600 matrix switcher, controlled by an IPCP Pro 555 control processor responding to user selections made through a touchpanel interface on an iPad running the Extron Control App, selects program content for eight projectors and twelve speakers, creating an immersive 360-degree video and Dolby Atmos® surround sound theater-in-the-round experience.
The HyFlex model enriches learning by allowing students to participate live in-person or remotely, and access on-demand content via any device. This flexibility improves learning outcomes by providing a consistent experience for both in-person and remote learners. Using collaboration and streaming technologies, schools offer real-time, interactive instruction where remote learners look and feel like they are in the room with instructors and classmates, able to watch lectures, ask questions, and contribute. For those who prefer to learn at their own pace, schools provide recorded lessons that can be streamed on-demand, thanks to high speed Internet. Everyone involved in designing and installing the esports lounge network and AV systems came together and communicated well. CSUCI’s network team talked with Extron and learned everything they needed to do. Extron quickly diagnosed and resolved the few network issues that popped up during integration. Everything came together on the planned schedule. Everything worked great.
Throughout the rollout of the esports lab, Extron was extremely proactive in working to make the project a complete success.
Seventy-five cadets participated in the design and construction of the esports facility AV upgrade. Collaborating with Extron on the project immersed them in a technologically advanced training environment. The hands-on experience gave them a deeper understanding of the hardware and software that makes esports possible, empowering their passion for competitive gaming.
To get the esports venues up and running, we needed to create infrastructure that was cost effective and easily scalable for future growth. William Reed built the AV systems himself from spare Extron equipment that we had on hand, which ticked the box for ‘cost effective’. As the esports program grew in popularity, we upgraded to newer Extron equipment, with help from integrator Strategic Connections. That ticked the box for ‘scalable’. It’s a winning strategy for the school’s AV team as well as for the esports teams.

Compared to the legacy AV systems, the AV over IP topology requires fewer components, yet delivers more capability and easier scalability. We can take content from one classroom and feed it into another for overflow audiences. It's a capability we've always had and was a must-have requirement for the retrofit. It's working great through the AV over IP network.
The real challenge over the years was adapting to the project's continuous evolution and changing room uses. We opted for Extron’s highly flexible and current technology, implementing the Extron NAV® Pro AV over IP System for all major audio, video, and USB routing in combination with our standard Extron solutions.
We have a lot of qualitative data from coaches, teachers, and administrative staff explaining how students that were indifferent to their studies have turned around because of our esports program. Duke Law School Modernizes Lecture Halls and Moot Courtroom with Extron AV Solutions
Duke University School of Law, one of the world's leading law schools, has long relied on audiovisual teaching systems. Duke Law’s AV team recently upgraded existing AV in lecture halls and a moot courtroom with the latest Extron products, including NAV® Pro AV over IP for AV content switching and distribution. The upgrade immediately boosted system reliability and introduced user-friendly control capabilities not previously available with the older technology.

Compton Students Level Up with Esports and Extron XTP
Compton Unified School District in Southern California began their esports program to better engage K12 students. Their esports lab at Davis Middle School relies on advanced AV switching system, powered by Extron XTP®, to achieve seamless presentation of the gaming content, including instantaneous content display triggered by student reactions and interactions at multiple gaming stations.
Mt. San Antonio College is the largest community college on the west coast. They built an entirely new sports complex for their football, track and field, and cross country athletics programs. The AV system supports interconnected rooms, myriad display devices, and an 85’ x 37' LED display that acts as a scoreboard and presentation videowall. Extron XTP® provides AV distribution for the expansive complex.
The primary mode of learning in the classroom is listening. Students listen to the teacher, and they listen to each other. Even well-designed classrooms can have acoustics that make hearing and being heard a challenge: background noise, reverberation, and long distances from speakers to listeners all contribute to the problem. Our VoiceLift® Pro Microphone ensures that all students can hear the lessons being taught, whether the source is the teacher's voice, or a multimedia AV presentation from a laptop or media player. A variety of speakers, amplifiers, and audio DSP products can further boost classroom audio and voice amplification as needed.
In a perfect world, we aim to refresh our AV systems every five years. But we often stretch that to six, seven, or eight years. The Extron equipment just keeps going, with better than 95% uptime. I can’t remember having ever replaced an Extron amplifier. And I’ve got Extron power supplies that have been running for 12 years.

Recognizing that central New York needed a large high-end venue to host events with big audiences, Syracuse University built a 744 seat auditorium as the centerpiece of its National Veterans Resource Center. Coastline Refreshes Campus AV with Extron Digital Switching, Streaming, and Pro Series Control
The Coast Community College District in California upgraded AV teaching systems in classrooms, lecture halls and videoconferencing spaces with Extron AV technology. XTP® systems switch and extend AV signals. SMP 351 streaming media processors record and stream presentations for archive, video on demand, and postproduction. TouchLink® Pro touchpanels and IPCP Pro control processors provide an intuitive AV control operator interface. A DMP Plus audio DSP processor provides acoustic echo cancellation for clear conversations between in-room and remote videoconference participants.
Instruction is shifting away from lecture toward collaborative learning, where students gather in small groups to solve problems and perform tasks that begin with facts and ideas and progress to applications. The University of Washington Tacoma campus mixes newly constructed buildings with renovated century-old brick warehouse buildings that date from the days when the area was a harborside freight terminal. 115+ learning spaces are equipped with Extron-powered AV systems that support collaboration across UW Tacoma’s seven schools. The newly built Milgard Hall exemplifies how UW leverages AV to foster collaboration. The building features a High Impact Practices (HIPs) seminar venue, large classrooms, and laboratories that rely on Extron presentation switchers, XTP®, and DTP® systems for AV signal switching, extension, and control. Flintridge Preparatory School in Southern California is a private preparatory school with students in grades 7-12. Extron Presentation Switching & NAV Pro AVoIP Systems Enable Law Enforcement Collaborative Learning at UWE
The University of West of England (UWE) augmented their law enforcement education offerings. This entailed adding collaborative classrooms, simulated interrogation rooms, and forensic training crime scene simulation rooms. Extron NAV® Pro AV over IP supports sharing of student perspectives by providing audiovisual links between rooms. The AV over IP network provides two-way communication between classrooms and simulation spaces, allowing students and instructors in the classrooms to observe and critique in real time the actions fellow students take during the simulated scenarios.
Coastline Refreshes Campus AV with Extron Digital Switching, Streaming, and Pro Series Control
The Coast Community College District in California upgraded AV teaching systems in classrooms, lecture halls and videoconferencing spaces with Extron AV technology. The lecture halls and videoconferencing spaces are built for seamless collaboration between those located onsite and those attending online. An XTP® CrossPoint 3200 switch provide fast, efficient, and reliable interconnection of AV content between rooms to facilitate interaction between attendees and accommodation of overflow crowds, whether they are students and instructors participating in lectures, or community members drawn to community events.
The most important consideration for classroom technology is ease of use. Well designed control systems assure this by providing an intuitive user interface, flexible automated or manual configuration of all devices, and solid reliability. Keypad controllers such as Extron's MediaLink® Plus are simple devices that provide functionality to operate a typical single display classroom AV system. They have an intuitive user interface consisting of a few backlit mechanical or touchscreen buttons and perhaps a volume control and can be set up to control multiple devices with the push of a single button. The AV system can be activated for the day's lessons as easily as turning on the lights. Their rugged construction stands up well to the rigors of daily classroom use. For more sophisticated applications our TouchLink® Pro touchpanels, coupled with our IP Link® Pro xi control processors, provide the advantages of a customizable graphical user interface, the ability to configure macro control functions for virtually unlimited AV system automation, and sleek aesthetics with vibrant color graphics on durable glass screens.
Extron’s AV control system design for the esports facility met our requirement to keep things intuitive for users. The touchpanel GUIs show clickable room maps of gaming stations and video displays. That makes assigning gaming stations to teams, creating competition matchups, and arranging multiple video windows on room displays very natural for users while the control system handles switching and routing behind the scenes.
My goal for the AV user interfaces is to keep the same look and feel across campus. I have a TouchLink® template, which I fine tune in collaboration with the AV integrator for each application. For this project, I worked with ClarkPowell to configure the control GUIs. Extron wrote the drivers that control the Harris Gym lighting system, allowing us to adjust the lighting from the touchpanel interface.
Recursav programmed the TouchLink® Pro touchpanels to replicate the look and feel of the non-Extron user interfaces that were replaced. When the new AV system went live, I noticed that the new touchpanels provide a crisper response than the panels that were replaced. I received zero calls from users for assistance with the new system. That indicates to me that end users didn’t even notice the change, which was the goal.

Southern California’s Long Beach City College has a winning esports program with its own esports facility. Extron audiovisual technology immerses fans and players in the gaming action. In addition to a flexible, scalable, ultra-low latency NAV® Pro AV over IP network that switches and distributes AV content, the LBCC esports facility features an Extron AV control system that’s a standout example of how a custom-designed AV control system can enhance the user experience. 15" TouchLink® Pro touchpanels at the reception desk and the shoutcaster booth display the room floorplan. A few taps on the touchpanel GUI assign players to gaming PCs, organize team matchups, and set up AV content routing from sources to displays. The shoutcaster touchpanel has production mode AV controls and one-button macros that are effective tools for creating esports broadcasts with professional production values.
Extron AV Enriches Sports Experiences at Charlotte Country Day School Athletic and Aquatic Center
North Carolina’s Charlotte Country Day School is a private school for grades PK to 12 with a student population of approximately 2000. The Klein Aquatic Center and Harris Performance Gym support the school’s robust athletic programs. As with other teaching spaces throughout the campus, Extron equipment manages AV signal distribution and control in these facilities. Users operate the AV systems through TouchLink® Pro touchpanels and IPCP Pro xi Series control processors. Wake Forest University School of Business Farrell Hall Gets an AV Refresh with Extron Control & NAV Pro AV over IP
Wake Forest University School of Business is the graduate business school of Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Existing AV distribution and control systems in Farrell Hall had reached end-of-life and needed to be replaced. An Extron NAV® Pro AV over IP network replaced existing AV matrix switching in an auditorium and multiple classrooms. AV over IP offered cost savings through reuse of existing network cable infrastructure. Furthermore, the scalability of AV over IP aligned with future expansion plans. The AV control system was upgraded to Extron IP Link® Pro control processors and TouchLink® Pro touchpanels. The touchpanel user interfaces duplicated the look and feel of the control systems being replaced, meeting a key goal to make the transition a seamless experience for everyone.

The University created an E-Learning and teaching laboratory to study interactive and flexible learning styles and to experiment with technology tools and resources. One Control System to Rule Them All University of North Carolina – Wilmington, Veterans Hall
UNCW’s Veterans Hall is filled with flexible spaces that support active learning and HyFlex Education. These spaces are served by an AV system built around an Extron NAV® Pro AV over IP network spanning six floors and 205 endpoints. To develop the control architecture for this AV system, UNCW used Extron ControlScript®, a deployment utility tool that allows AV developers to deploy and debug control system programs created using Microsoft Visual Studio®. ControlScript enabled designers to create meaningful variable names that could be reused across numerous control systems in the building. ControlScript also enabled the creation of a client-server relationship between the control processors in multiple classrooms and the central control room. The flexibility of Extron ControlScript made it possible for Veterans Hall AV systems to reliably operate with ease and versatility.
Student Project at Kutztown University Has Amazon Alexa Talking to Extron Classroom AV Systems
When considering possibilities for a senior project, a small team of students at Pennsylvania’s Kutztown University created a pilot project to further the school’s strong commitment to the Americans with Disabilities Act. Their project, dubbed Classroom Technology (CT) Toolbox, controls classroom AV systems with Alexa voice commands. The user speaks into an Alexa Echo™ device. Alexa software translates the speech to data strings that are passed to skill application code, called Lambda Functions. The Lambda Functions trigger hardware actions. Lambda Functions are written in Python using Extron Global Scripter®. The students demonstrated CT-Toolbox successfully to faculty evaluators, who enthusiastically gave the project a passing grade.
Extron Technology Unifies Security System Control at Mobile Alabama Schools to Make Campuses Safer
Mobile County Public School System and the City of Mobile, Alabama implemented a major security technology initiative at one of its campuses as a pathfinder for improved security districtwide. Extron worked with six other companies to transform a collection of siloed applications into a seamless, easy to operate physical security solution. The system integrates VoIP telephones, security cameras; intercoms, paging, digital signage; mass notification, color-changing lights, motion sensors; gunfire sensing; and Extron MediaLink® Plus classroom AV control panels with Teacher Assist buttons. Extron control processors, programmed with Extron programming tools, mesh all of this into a coherent system, providing software drivers that interface with APIs of other elements of the system from the different companies involved.
How Extron Programming Enhanced the AV Experience at Lawrenceville School
Lawrenceville School is a private boarding school located in central New Jersey. The school’s Abbott Dining Hall uses an Extron DTP® CrossPoint® matrix switcher with multiple DTP transmitters and receivers to route signals to projectors and displays. The system is controlled via two Extron TouchLink® pro touchpanels through the built-in IPCP Pro control processor within the matrix switcher. All of this is programmed using Extron ControlScript® and Extron Global Scripter® Integrated Development Environment. This case study is a first person account of a seasoned Python programmer’s first experience using these two Extron AV system control software tools to set up an AV system.
To simplify booking of heavily used instructional spaces, our sleek TouchLink® Scheduling Panels connect directly to popular calendaring services. A couple of screen taps or scanning a QR Code are all it takes to make on-demand reservations, or check-in, extend, and release meeting spaces. Administrators can use room usage and meeting data from each touchpanel to analyze activity patterns and trends. All this, with no annual subscription fee.
The esports lounge is in high demand for both gaming and teaching. We made the lounge bookable through our 25Live® scheduling system. A 10" TLS scheduling touchpanel at the entrance shows booking and occupancy status at a glance.
Our conference rooms are booked through an Office 365™ reservation system. TLS 1025 scheduling panels are located at conference room entrances. Professors and staff can reserve the rooms from their desks, or right at the scheduling panels. The scheduling panels have red and green backlighting to indicate at-a-glance whether rooms are occupied or available.

They have red-green backlighting to show room occupancy status. Users can make reservations at the scheduling panels, from a desk computer, or smartphone. Cal State University Channel Islands created an esports lounge where all students, including members of its Dolphins esports club, can compete in intercollegiate esports league tournaments and play recreationally. Western Atlantic University School of Medicine in Freeport, Bahamas, chose NAV® Pro AV over IP to distribute and switch audiovisual teaching content between sources and destinations across its campus.
