Mark Barber and Patrick Yii first crossed paths in the early
1990's, and
found they shared a passion for bringing electronic concepts
to life, and the exciting process behind creating practical

started off as a 'meeting of minds' soon developed into
a
strong business partnership, with each bringing their own
experiences and processes to the table for their
clients.
The decision to merge their two businesses gave them the
opportunity to specialize in the design and manufacture of
unique electronic equipment, and the ability to provide solutions to a wider range of clients and projects. |

Mark Barber
has over 20 years experience in component level repair and
electronic design and was a co-founder of Extron over 5 years
ago. Mark has been a major contributor to the continued success
of Extron and has led some innovative and world competitive
research design initiatives for global customers.
Mark’s
contributions with Extron include not only the technical
management of the company but also the long term strategic
planning process to ensure Extron continues to grow and maintain
best practice quality systems and the highest attainable service
levels.
Mark has a
Bachelor of Engineering from RMIT and has completed a range of
professional development and product specific short course
programs. |
Patrick
Yii graduated from RMIT in Electronics and Communications in
1976. After an initial period in various consumer electronics,
including position as Victorian Service manager for AKAI
electronics and National Technical manager for Village
Entertainment, Patrick started Pytech Systems.
Pytech
Systems positioned itself as a service and installation company
in the burgeoning computer market. After many successful years
in computer and video entertainment, Pytech began accepting
commissions to design electronic solutions for various clients.
In 1988
Patrick was put in charge of marketing for the Orcad range of
CAD products. This experience and the very successful results
has given Patrick invaluable sales and marketing experience
which is enhanced by Patrick’s high level of technical expertise
and management experience. |

1.1
Current Business Activities
Currently Extron has the following major business activities:
1.1.1
Electronic Design Contracting Services
Extron offers electronic design services for clients requiring
specialised electronic products for both the consumer and
industrial markets. This includes the total design of product,
product enhancements, daughter boards and add-on boards.
Currently the design contracting services have proved to be a
very good client source for Extron the consultancy services
offered by Mark Barber to various clients has resulted in good
projects and subsequent business. With the forward growth of the
business this area is the main target growth area with
additional resources mainly people, engineers. This work leads
to multiple jobs and good maximisation of services to the
client.
1.1.2
Manufacturing
Following on from our Research and Design process, Extron
offers a manufacturing service for our clients ranging from
small cable assemblies to complete systems. We service short run
or high volume work. Using a network of local and overseas
assemblers we can provide a good coverage. Apart from low volume
prototypes all this is done using outside contractors with
Extron managing the process. Extron can also been offer PCB
manufacture services through our agreement with Mulda
Electronics in China.
1.1.3
Product Family Development
One of the core activities is to develop product
families of related and recognised products that are offered to
industry locally and oversease. Currently we have the
following family groups:
1.1.3.1
LED lighting Products
Extron has developed a range of LED lighting products for
decorative, commercial and domestic applications. We have become
industry experts on LED devices and application of these devices
to a wide range of different situations. Our product knowledge
is in depth and professional.
1.1.3.2 NetLink
This family is a group of test instruments that were
acquired from EDI Australia and are now part of Extron's IP.
This family is used to test phone lines and ADSLmodem lines.
This family is scheduled for redevelopment to meet new market
needs as the company resources are available. There area
nubmer of new products targeted for this family group. We
are also looking to rebrand a number of products from OEM
suppliers to add to the offerings of this family.
1.1.3.3 MeasureSafe
(TM)
This family is a range of electrical testing
equipment. The first in this product family is the
MeasureSafe 36A, used for testing RCD or electrical safety
swithes. There are a number of new products targeted for
this family associated with electrical testing.
1.1.3.4 Flockoff
(TM)
The FlockOff family is a new family of products used to provide
protection for food crops by playing sounds that scare birds and
crop eating animals away.
1.1.4
Calibrations
Extron provides a calibration service for Ideal Industries with
their Lantek range of test equipment. This is expanding as Ideal
make their presence felt in the market place in Australia.
Currently this calibration service is under contract with Ideal
and Extron is the sole exclusive supplier to the market place.
It is generally accepted that test equipment should be
calibrated every 12 months.
1.1.5
Test Equipment Repair
Extron provides
repair services to Ideal for their Lantek range a fast and
reliable repairs service for both their current and obsolete
products. This is offered as part of a total solution for
clients who are looking for such an opportunity.
1.1.6
Product Importing and
reBranding
Extron is currently importing a range of products to supplement
some of our design services for some of our clients. The best
example of this is the range of LED lighting products, sourced
from our partner in China and of a high standard maintained
through design advice and electronic problem solving . We also
have a distribution agreement with e-Instruments to complement
our range of test equipment. Extron is also evaluating a range
of high performance test equipment from a South Korean company.
They design and manufacture a range of TDR (Time Domain
Reflectometry Test equipment) used to measure the length of
cable and help to identify points of failure.
